First time entering the B-IT building

Today’s my first day entering the B-IT building where most of my study will take place. The building looks well and as I entered, I found it really interesting to do my study there. I took a peek to the lecture room and it looked like a big studio. I was informed that the B-IT building was previously the West Germany’s parliament building some years back when Bonn was still the capital city. Can’t wait for my first lecture day :-)

Actually I went to the B-IT building to consult with my academic tutor, Mr. Jürgen Rapp, who came to Bonn today to consult which course I should take for this winter semester. So for the time being my study plan is:

  • Designing Interactive System I
  • German Course
  • Technical Writing
  • Seminar: Convergent Networks with topic “Performance Evaluation of TCP Congestion Control Mechanisms”
  • Lab Work I: User-oriented System Design and Personalized Information Services (at Fraunhofer FIT St. Augustin)

There might be slight changes in this plan, but quite unlikely. I hope I can go through all subjects well.

Autumn is around the corner…. So colorful….

On my way to the B-IT building, I saw trees with changing-color leaves. So colorful…. So beautiful…. Even leaves have different colors and they all look pretty as whole. Differences are meant to be beautiful, to be pretty…. That’s the thought which came to my head while looking the beautiful multi-colored leaves accross my path to the B-IT building.

Goodbye Indonesia! Here I come Germany!

It was Thursday, 30th August 2007 afternoon when I and my parents went to the Soekarno-Hatta airport. Yes, it was my departure day to Germany.

House in Jakarta

My Parents’ house in Jakarta…. Home sweet home….

At 18:50 the plane with flight number LH779 (by Lufthansa) took off from the airport heading to Singapore for a transit. I was a bit sad leaving my parents, but for good sake I should do it, no turning back. The flight to Singapore took about 2.5 hours. I didn’t know that all passengers should leave plane and go to the waiting room, so I kept sitting in my seat. Then a stewardess came and asked me to get out :-D

And arrghhhh…. the security is quite tight at the Changi airport that I should took out every single stuff I bring with me, including my laptop from the laptop bag :-( Soon after the same plane took off directly to Frankfurt. It was about 12 hours flight from Singapore to Frankfurt. The flight was OK, the food was fine, and I had a long chat as well with Mr. Sergei who sat next to me.

Landing at Frankfurt airport

Landing at Frankfurt AM Main’s airport

The plane landed in Frakfurt AM Main’s airport at about 05:30 Germany local time. So I got out from the plane and headed to the baggage claim area and took my luggage there.

I found it difficult to contact my big bro, Bono, since I didn’t bring any EUR coins (I brought only USD). But surprisingly my big bro was there fetching me on time. So we went to the hotel where he stayed in Frankfurt with his wife, Jing, and his 2-year-old daughter, Claudia, for a night by subway train.

I took a bath then went to the Indonesian consulate with my big bro using the subway train.

After finishing the business with the consulate, we went back to the hotel and checked out. Then we headed to Bonn through autobahn #3 by car. It was a speedy ride…. Yeah, the car ran at about 150 km/h in average (my big bro told me that in German autobahns it’s normal to drive with that pace). So we headed to Jugendherberge Bonn (a youth hostel located in Bonn) and my big bro and his family stayed there until Sunday. I stayed until Wednesday since I hadn’t got any dorm room yet.

On Wednesday I checked out from Jugendherberge Bonn and got in to my room in Theodor-Litt-Haus. I got a small room with shared rest rooms and kitchen. But it’s fine since the location of my dorm is in the city center.

So I’ve reached Bonn to study and pursue my master degree. I hope I’ll enjoy my stay here and have a good time studying here.
